Zero Energy Home - PILOT PROJECT

Project Concept/Laboratory

• A residential housing development located in San Antonio      

• Three (3) homes of similar size and orientation to serve as a laboratory:
                  -  1st home to be constructed using standard building materials and processes
                  -  2nd home to be constructed using high energy efficient materials and processes
                  -  3rd home to be constructed using same materials and processes as 2nd home w/2.5kW roof mounted PV system

•  Incorporate energy efficiency enhancements while maintaining a normal appearance with other homes

• Determine feasibility of a sustainable ZEH program
  Conduct energy modeling of building materials, HVAC systems and design to determine appropriate selections

• Conduct HERS and Blower Door Tests to establish baseline data

• Monitor and track performance of each home

• Project the additive impact of proliferation of high performance homes

• Design a high performance home program to include:
                   -   A portfolio of energy efficient technologies and construction products/processes
                   -   Recommendations for appropriate incentives (rebates)
                   -   Financial analysis and alignment with strategic business plan
